The Galactic Map interface provides a visual overview of the known galaxy, you can view all explored star systems and the jump point network that connects them, fleets dispositions, colonization prospects, allegiance, economy etc. The Galaxy Map may be accessed from the main menu or by pressing F11 key. The sidebar displays information about the currently selected system (habitable bodies, jump points, etc.). You can gain more specific info by returning to the System Map. Note: You have manually arrange system positions on the galactic map. See Navigating below. == Navigating == You can pan the map by clicking on empty space and dragging the mouse. C# does not allow for the map to be zoomed in or out. Whenever a new system is discovered (by exploring a jump point), it shows up at an arbitrary point on the galactic map, near the system that you discovered it from. You can move the systems around to create a more sensible chart of your empire - click and drag a planet to move it. Note that this is only a temporary arrangement, to allows experimentation without commitment. In order to make the arrangement permanent, you need to click the "Save current system positions" button (the floppy disk on a green button, third from right on the top icon bar). There is also a "snap-to-grid" function that can be accessed by hitting the "Line up systems to a hidden grid" button on the same bar (grid icon, fifth from right). If you have been moving the systems around and you decide you don't like what you've done, you can hit the "Return systems to their last save positions" button (green circular arrow, fourth from right), which restores things to the last saved configuration. == Time Advance == The Time Advance buttons allow the user to advance time from the Galactic map in the same way as those on the Main System Map or any of the other screens that feature Time advance buttons. == Left Sidebar== The left sidebar works similarly in the galactic map to how it works in the System Map. Overview: This tab shows basic info on the last selected system - the number of bodies of various types, as well as the jump points (both in a list and a schematic map). It also gives you the option to mark a system as being controlled by different races, change the naming theme (which allows you to adjust the default names for all systems discovered from that system outwards), or assign the system to a different Sector Command. Display: This contains a wide variety of options for data that can be displayed on each system in the map. These options are relatively self-explanatory, and as they only affect display, you can simply toggle them on and off to see how they work. Naval Forces: This lists all of your race's ships in the system, and the Naval Admin Commands overseeing them. Contacts: This lists all known ships of other races, with details about when they were last encountered, and what you know of them. Map Labels: This allows you to make labels on the map. These can be moved around just like a system. Survey Sites: This lists all known locations where a ground-based follow-up survey for additional minerals can be performed. Miscellaneous: This allows you to change the icons used to display your ships and stations, claim a system as protected (see diplomacy for details), mark a system as military-only (so your civilian shipping won't enter it and your commercial vessels will not auto-route into or through it), or set up a mineral search flag (exact functionality unsure).
