Modding
In short, Mods which tinker with the code or the database are NOT ALLOWED without express permission from Steve. Any outside "tools" which interact with either the code or the database should follow these guidelines as well.
Here is the old forum post:
To make it easy, I will add a post to Mods that are 'approved' so they can be tagged.
Approved status will be for mods where I have either chatted to the Mod creator and I am happy it won't cause any issues or it is plainly a read-only mod.
Because we have come to this arrangement (thanks to twice2double and AbsolutelyNoFires), I will not be implementing the 'anti-mod' code, so non-db updates will still be possible.
I encourage players to use the approved mods as they will either fill in areas that are low priority for me (resolutions, colours, etc.) or provide extra functions, without causing me any concerns over introducing 'ghost' bugs.
This arrangement doesn't resolve the potential issues that a non-approved mod may cause, but I hope the availability of approved mods will significantly reduce the chance of that happening. If there is an issue, we can discuss at that point.
I'll post a similar message to this on the official forums and I will include links to approved mods if the mod creator wants to me provide one.
