Space station
This article contains information relevant to both the C# and VB6 versions of Aurora. Where differences exist, they are noted in the appropriate sections.
A space station is a kind of ship, with the following special features:
- It cannot mount armour or engines. (It will display as having armour thickness 1, but this is merely a structural shell, and cannot resist incoming weapons.)
- It cannot mount any military components.
- It can be built by Construction Factory installations, and does not need to be built in a shipyard.
Stations are frequently used to mount immense quantities of commercial components, most commonly either large numbers of production facilities (Orbital Mining Module/Sorium Harvester/Terraforming Module), very large logistical facilities (Recreational Module/Refuelling Hub/Ordnance Transfer Hub), and/or orbital populations (Ark Module).
To design a station, check off the "No Armour" checkbox in the F5 Class Design window, then design it normally otherwise. To construct a station, you may either build it normally in a Commercial Shipyard Complex (if you have one big enough), or you can go to the Industry tab of the F2 Economics window, select "Space Station" from the drop-down, and build it like any other planetary construction. Once the station is built, it must be moved via tug.
